AT&T and Apple are running a rather deceptive advertising campaign where they list the iPhone 3G at a price of $199.

I went into the AT&T store this afternoon to get an iPhone, and the guy told me it could cost either:

$199
$299
$399
$499

If you are new to AT&T, you get the iPhone for $199.

If you're not (if you've been a loyal AT&T customer for years like me), you pay more.

Why don't they just have you spin a wheel at the time of purchase to determine the price?
